The Next Project

No, I haven't entirely finished the binder... I'll get to that... I've still got a day to mail it before my self-imposed deadline. It's just that I got so excited yesterday talking about starting a new project and I couldn't wait any longer. Really, I should have waited, it's only going to make it harder on me, but it's too late now.

I decided to start the Annis shawl from Knitty since I have been thinking about possible Christmas presents lately and shawls in particular have been calling to me. After looking at a few patterns, Annis stood out because while it had some new skills for me to learn, nothing seemed so complicated that it'd give me a brain-ache. Although, having to cast on 363 stitches and go right into the pattern didn't go so smoothly and I did restart a few times.

This is just a test piece to figure out the best yarn to use for the project, and to make sure I can produce a gift-worthy shawl, but I'm enjoying having something to work on that I want to knit, and not something that I have to finish.

Unfortunately you're probably going to have to wait a while before seeing the finished shawl. This new project high will only have a shelf life of a day and a half as tomorrow I will need to pick a different project to bring to the beach with me this weekend. With 363 stitches it takes me about 20 minutes to knit a row, the pattern requires most of my concentration, and putting it down mid-row makes me a little nervous. I have a feeling it's going to be a "drop everything we're going......" kind of a trip!

I hope so, I've never done a shawl before and they all seem to have complicated short rows. I'll definitely post a picture when it's finished.
